In Tokyo lives Hirayama Koji (Yakusho) and works in modest circumstances, which some would probably describe as poor.A tiny flat without a bathroom, which he leaves every day to clean the toilets in the central Shibuya district for The Tokyo Toilet company. He goes about his work with the utmost calm and meticulousness, does the same rounds every day, eats his lunch in the same park, takes short breaks to watch the shadows cast by the leaves in the trees, reads novels in the evening and appears to be completely satisfied with his life.
This man makes few words; his young colleague Takashi (Tokio Emoto) is quite different, he babbles where Hirayama communicates with gestures.
