Der New Yorker Radiojournalist Johnny, arbeitet an einer Reportage, für die er Jugendliche in den gesamten USA zu ihrer Zukunft befragt. Doch nach einem Anruf seiner Schwester Viv muss er sich unerwartet um ihren Sohn kümmern. Es ist das erste Mal, dass Johnny die Verantwortung für ein Kind übernehmen muss. And for Woody, who is as bright as he is sensitive, it is the first time he has been separated from his mother for a long time.
Together they embark on a road trip across the USA, where Johnny tries to finish his radio project and talks to young people about dreams, fears and hopes. A deep emotional connection gradually develops between the two, and the journey with all its ups and downs changes uncle and nephew forever.
